Composer Nicholas Sparks Leads CCCB Rehearsal

Composer Nicolas Sparks leads CCCB rehearsal with his composition of The Grand Rapids March on 9-29-25

The Coopersville Community Concert Band (CCCB) had the honor of welcoming Grand Rapids area composer Nicholas Sparks to the podium at our September 29, 2025 rehearsal. Mr. Sparks is a composer, conductor, and student at Grand Valley State University,  as well as a fine clarinetist. He has composed several works including the The Grand Rapids March, commissioned for the Grand Valley State University U-Band, directed by Dr. John Martin, and premiered in April 2025. Inspired by the classic marches of John Philip Sousa, this piece brings a fresh energy to the iconic march style. Mr. Sparks led the CCCB through rehearsing the piece and fine-tuning it so his musical vision truly resounds.

The CCCB, along with special guest the Zeeland Community Band, will perform together for A BANDtastic Evening on Monday, October 13, at 7:30 p.m. at the Centerstage Theatre at Coopersville High School. Doors open at 7:15 p.m. The concert is free, and all are invited to attend.

Don’t miss this exciting night of live music and your chance to hear The Grand Rapids March. Experience the joy and energy of live performance, and see why this group of passionate musicians is making Coopersville—and beyond—a more vibrant, BANDtastic place!
