The Coopersville Community Concert Band (CCCB) kicks off its 22nd season with a BANDtastic Evening on Monday, October 13, at 7:30 p.m. at the Centerstage Theatre at Coopersville High School. Doors will open at 7:15 p.m. The concert will feature the CCCB along with special guests, the Zeeland Community Band. The concert is free and all are invited to attend.
Under the direction of Luanne DeVries and Tom Harsay, the CCCB will present an exciting program that includes Incantation and Dance by John Barnes Chance, a cornerstone of wind ensemble literature and a thrilling percussion showcase, Tuebor Concert Band Suite by Andrew David Perkins, a suite of Michigan folk songs that honor the state’s agricultural, maritime, and lumbering traditions, the lively American Barndanceby Richard L. Saucedo, and the expressive October by Eric Whitacre.
The CCCB is delighted to welcome the Zeeland Community Band, conducted by Rose Wiersma, a former Coopersville band director. The Zeeland Community Band will perform the whimsical swing of At the Gremlin Ball by Charles Lee Hill, the popular hits of Henry Mancini in Mancini Magic arranged by Jerry Brubaker, Dmitri Shostakovich’s captivating Waltz No. 2, arranged by James Curnow, and Curtain Call by John Wasson.
The evening will close with both bands combining to perform Jaime Texidor’s spirited Spanish march Amparito Roca, The Grand Rapids March by Nicholas Sparks, which premiered in April 2025, and the lovely Thanks for the Memory by Robin and Rainger, arranged by Ted Ricketts, first introduced in the 1938 film The Big Broadcast.
Concert-goers are encouraged to bring new or gently used books for schoolchildren in grades Pre-K through 8 to support the Coopersville Rotary’s book drive to build a library in Uganda. For information on what books are accepted, please click here.
